I hope this message finds you all well and happy and healthy and……happy!
I just wanted to let everyone know what I was up to since the tour wrapped August 5th. Well, I tell you…coffee beans now dominate my life more than they ever have. Those potent little buggers have got my full attention 24/7 and I couldn’t be having more fun if I tried - and I do try. It’s been two solid months of travel visiting roasters, tasting hundreds, if not thousands, of coffees and I have chosen some that I know you will love.
Why coffee? Why now? This company is a tribute to my mom. She was the guiding influence, and I owe all the great things that have come into my life to her. She was a steadfast believer in hard work, nose to the grindstone approach to life and she led by example. She was also very independent, smart as a whip, had a great sense of humor (oh’ she loved to laugh and her laugh would ring out in the movie theaters of my youth), and was extremely compassionate and generous to those less fortunate. She always considered herself lucky no matter how tough things got for us. She used to say “Son, to be the richest person in the world is to be the most generous of heart, time and understanding.”
After school and during the summer our apartment was filled with with my friends all clamoring to sit and talk with her. Her beauty transfixed both boys and girls but it was her ability to listen to their problems that made them all want to move in. She was a superstar and they all knew it. She gave them time and understanding. She fed them, too. This was daily. Her brother, my dear uncle Russell, had this gift, as well. Their ability to tell a great story was unrivaled and they both delighted in sharing the most humorous ones when together. A lot of laughter, a lot of love, but she would always say the same thing to me when I walked out the door and that was “Give ‘em hell”, and I always did.
I was - and remain - a fierce competitor. Somehow I inherited that from her or she instilled that in me, or both. Whether it was school or sports and whathaveyou, I was always driven to succeed. That is because of her. I see it in my son, too. He’s only three but my god is that boy not only sweet but super competitive. He is non-stop action and imagination and the magic he brings daily is nothing I’ve ever experienced. When he was born I decided to begin building a real company for him to take over one day. "Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee" is a tribute to my family lineage past, present and future. It begins with my mom, it’s built by me and it will continue with my son.
I have never had a clearer purpose in doing anything or a deeper desire to earn success. I will offer you all a quality coffee at a low price because I know how expensive life is. Also, the success of "Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee" will offer me the opportunity to give back. One of the most exciting parts of this will be planning the charity events around the brand. I see ski events, beach volley ball events, 5k running events, biking events, anything and everything I can think of to raise awareness and give back to the community I so dearly love.
The driving force in my life has always been to make my mom proud so that she could go around to her friends and brag which, she did. Now, not only is she watching me but my boy is with me and watching, too, and I want him to see me building this with hard work, love and compassion. It’s setting the example just like my mom did for me.
I would be honored if you would take this journey with me.
All the best to you and your loved ones.
"Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee" will be out soon.
